Simple Carpet Care
Dallas, TX - Carpeting covers a large portion of the floors in this country and can be a hard thing to keep clean if you have a busy house. Knowing a few tips about carpet cleaning can help you keep your investment looking good and lasting longer. Using these tips will save you time and may help you save your carpet as well.
The best care you can give your carpet is to vacuum it often with a good quality vacuum cleaner. Getting rid of the dirt and debris that gets tracked in during the day is important in basic carpet care, and will also help you avoid more costly problems later on. Cleaning this dirt from your carpet when it’s still on the surface is the easiest time to deal with it before it has a chance to work itself down into the pile. Once it gets down lower in your carpet, you’ll have a tougher and more expensive time removing it. When you vacuum your carpet there are few things to keep in mind that will make the job easier and help to improve the results.
Try to vary the pattern you use when vacuuming the carpet and don’t simply trace your steps from last time. This will ensure that you get all of the dirt and will also help you avoid damaging the pile of the carpet. Many times a vacuum will leave small particles of dirt trapped in the carpet when you make a pass over a section from a particular direction. If you were to go back over that section from another direction you might be able to get these last few particles of dirt. Varying the pattern you use can help you accomplish this and will leave your carpet cleaner as a result.
The other thing that changing your vacuuming pattern does is to groom the fibers in your carpet. If you looked at your carpet under a microscope you would see that it’s made up of really small fibers that have been twisted into a strand. There are literally thousands of these strands that have been attached to a backing material to make your carpet. If you constantly vacuum the same way you will condition your carpet to align it’s fibers in the same pattern and will actually crush them into position over time. This is very similar to the dents created in a carpet when a heavy object like a table is left in the same position for a long time. Once this happens it’s very difficult to repair this damage. If you vacuum your carpet differently each time you can actually improve the health of your carpet by brushing the fibers and forcing them to stand up straight.
Another good idea to remember is that you should always change your vacuum bag, or empty the canister when it is half full. Even though this might seem like a wasteful practice, if you let the bag or canister get completely full you will lose a lot of the vacuums power and not be getting the carpet as clean. The reason for this is that for a vacuum to work it has to draw the air it sucks in through the filter where all of the dirt and debris are trapped. If there is a lot of dirt blocking its travel, it can’t create as strong a vacuum and will leave smaller particles on the floor. Also, as the bag is filled to capacity there is a good chance that some of the smaller particles in the bag will get sent out with the exhaust and fall back to your carpet to be cleaned again.
